Out of routine

Woke up on a Friday. Draped on my old sling bag and walked to school in my Hawaii pants and junior orientation collar shirt. Wasn't up for grooming as there was only lectures to attend before heading back to my room to continue my sleep marathon. Haven't been sleeping on sufficient hours and there was a whole weekend to look forward too *grins. That was the plan.

During lecture, my phone bussed. A friend was calling from another corner of college persuading me to go on the bus to leave for a camp. At first i thought it was a prank call as the very idea of running off from a lecture hall to camp over the weekend seems insane. How can i go for a camp without packing? *laughs, without having extra clothing and sleeping bag or tooth brush and any idea of where i'm heading, no that can't be. I don't even have a tower!

"i can't believe i'm doing this", a guy walked in the bus with cheers and pats drumming on his back. He was heading for a camp in Pahang for 3 days with onlya converse bag with lecture notes and calculator inside. and that guy was me

Sometimes we think too much. Of where to eat, what to wear, should i do this, what if this happen, what if that doesn't happen

If i were to think more, and buy the idea of it, i might have lost so much :)

The camp was definitely one of the most outrageous thing that has ever happen. I mean, why would a guy runaway with a bus even when there wasn't a Juliet to look forward to :P

Jungle trekking at night with white converse was awsome! i officially like leaches :) Meeting Mr. Keong a lecturer from TAR was great too. My team even won a cooking competition by naming the dishes malay style, chinese style and indian style just because i wasn't consistent with adding soya sauce. And acting out a perverted sketch of "Transformers falls in love with
Snow White" was really out of my expectation. TARcians are really creative. haha.

All in all, i'm glad i've decided to walk on the bus that Friday, to do something spontaneous and even though skipping church on sunday, i'm glad i tried reaching out during camp.

Hope you'll understand what i wrote Mr. Keong. We don't have to pay our rent for living on Earth by doing good, we do good because someone had already done all the good for us :)

and yea, i did not brush my teeth for 3 days (no further details required :)

SBS PROM NIGHT

"If the world is gonna tell of how terrible you are, and how horrible your plan is, are you still gonna stand firm and believe in what you believe in"

There have been too many great moments in life that has come to past since i last recall. As controversial as it can be, the prom night finally ended. And i'm getting so many hits on this blog with people still eager to dig information of the night through google.

Yea majority of the crowd did not enjoy the highly anticipated sbs night which i've poured all out in trying to succeed in. Forums have been bombarding vulgarly of how "unforgettable" it was and of course the food. It was a misjudgement by the caterrer and all we can do is apologize. Some call it a total waste of RM20, funny comments include saying that she spent 21.70 bucks on the prom, rm20 for the ticket, rm1.70 for the roti canai after storming angrily away from prom because the food was awful.

If i were to paste up all the comments it would take more than 10 pages long and every comment goes right into the thorns. Yes, the night wasn't that smooth and there were difficulties and problems arising here and there, but back to the question, if the whole world tells you of how bad you and your plans are, will you still believe yourself and what you believe in?

*********************************************************************

"hey what do you think of a non-seating event, where we can throw away the idea of sit-and-watch to interact-and-play?"

A few guys were so hyped out during dinner discussing of how this year's annual event can be. They were enthusiastic of innovations and new things.

"Tarcians are so used of dressing up as if they are going for prom but yet enjoy sitting in the dark college hall being a judge judging the night, At the end of the day, whats left of the night is only judgement and critics of how well or bad the performance was, of how the night should be."

Maybe they needed a mindset, a change in perception. Maybe, there could be a night where its all about having fun and not judging like a Simon Cowell or a Paul Moss.

*****************************************************************

Three guys went into the SWC room upon a call by the chairperson of the night. They were uncertain that the purpose of meeting up was to be told of their job post on the upcoming sbs night, a night where there is no protocol to follow.

"Program Designer"

He was a little disappointed that it wasn't the post he wanted but yea it was ok.

"hey can i be incharge of all the creative thinking and concepts?? :)"

he got his permission soon after, and embarked on writing a brand new concept for whats gonna come.

******************************************************************
Stressful deadlines and tiring preparation, those was what the whole 63 of the committee agreed to carry on their shoulder. All as one to bring to the students the best, as the student welfare committee.

They really wanted to do the best for the participants, and hence sacrificing sleepless nights, financial difficulties, friendship conflicts, study time, assignment discussion, leisure moments and yamcha dates. They believe, for the sake of bringing a good night to the students, it was worthwhile.

"I got a feelin" became the theme song of the prom themed Garden Of Eden. Why? because they all stick on to the next line of the familiar song name...."tonight's gonna be a good night!"

*******************************************************************

With more than self-abillity, he tried to tighten the committee's work as well as the committee themselves in order to uniform the content and purpose of the night and at the same time foster better relationship with each other.

Things don't really work out your way, but if there is a chance of improving even if its just a right font size or background color, it is worth the effort and trouble and risk of being judge as a know-it-all.

The publications were carefully modified countless times, the ticket design, the promotional booth, the video arrangement, the performers and performances, the selection of songs, the items needed in every single detail, the layout of humans as well as landscapes, the designs of floor decorations and concepts, the lighting quotation and the effects preferred at the preferred timing, the best suited program flow to bring participants into the desired mood at the desired time, etc.....

Tiring, to everyone, but there is a common goal to achieve, a shared vision and the anticipated joy that was hope to be brought to the crowd. It was a magnificent journey :)

*************************************************************

The jamming studeo was brightly lit, with exaggerating amplifiers and fortune snatcher guitars. It was the first jamming session for the house band which consist of great and friendly strangers.

"Oh, Kiss me beneath the milky twilight,
lead me on the moonlit floor,
lift your open hand,
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon's sparkling
So kiss me"

Jessica has no adjectives to be described. Her chanting voice blended awkwardly with the full rock band but yet created a lovely beautiful mix that was plainly indescribable.

"The crowd would love them", he told himself :)

************************************************************

"I'm only emceeing if you emcee with me"

That was the first and only condition Andrew gave when he was approached about emceeing. Everyone knew he was funny, sarcastically funny. And his potentials needed a platform to be parade. He agreed immediately with the joy of finally getting Andrew to emcee.

"Andrew who?"

Yea, its gonna be a superstar phenomenon for this Andrew Who, arguably gonna be on par or even better than the familiar faces that were gonna emcee along with Andrew, Andy and Shaun.

**************************************************************

"Maybe its trueeeee"

He coupled the two and "demanded" them to duet the twilight saga soundtrack.

Bryan was unknown for his vocals, he wasn't confident with his inexperience on stage, but he knew he was the best person for the song along with June. They practice and sang countlessly to the hitsong of "Two is Better Than One".

"ya know you guys are singing for the dance floor right?"

Don't Know Why by Norah Jones and So Close by Jon Mclaughin from Enchanted was added to the must-sing list naturally.

*****************************************************************

Have you seen the Black Eyed Peas performance in Chicago where everyone dance to the song of "i got a feelin" for Oprah Winfrey? Or would it be even cooler to be part of it??

With the theme song, a bunch of dancers were assigned to choreograph a dance that is simple enough to allow a thousand people to dance together on the spot to the beat of the addictive song.

"No problem !" said Fook You, after his proposal of the idea.

Committees were the white rats on whether the dance move were to be a success. They came in a huge gang and started dancing.

...they were a few counts behind; he worried; they started catching up; a relief; everyone was moving to the beat and the mirror instructions of the dancers;

it worked! :)

*********************************************************************

A few more hours to the night. They were a group of people on stage sitting down, giving all the praise to God. It has always been a journey with God no matter what you do, and when you're doing events and facing challenges all the time, God seems to be so real than ever before.

"We commit the night to you Lord"

*********************************************************************

******************************************************

**************************************

****************************************************

The night went well for me. Yes it was boring at the start, because the crowd was plainly being themselves as Tarcians, shy, unactive and very judgemental. They are not to be blame though, because thays the risk of introducing something new and unused to.

But for me the idea went out, consciously or not. There was a large crowd in an empty floor, there was lightings from above by the truss, the stage wasn't the main attraction no more which was the plan because we wanted the crowd to realise that their attraction and concern should be who they're with, the people around them, the color tags signifying their status and 'approachability', the music and the participative atmosphere.

It was the first event to have the swimming pool open for prom with a live lounge music from a live band. I was truly joyeous when i saw the picture, the picture i've been picturing way long ago where people just chill around the pool with drinks in hand and a live band playing just to warm the atmosphere.

The crowd began to respond and hyped up after a few hours, and that was what that made the night great. They should realize that as long as they remained shy and unparticipative, there is no way they are gonna enjoy a prom. But still they are not to be blame as it might be us, not sending the message clear enough.

Anyhow, the performance were great, the emcees totally rocked, the dance of black eyed peas worked tremendously well, and the DJ for the first time in TAR brought the dance floor to a whole new level. Yea it was a little too short, but it was still one to the many firsts' for an event in TAR :)

Finally, after all that was said and done, the million dollar question is, am i gonna be swayed by everyone including the committee that the night was very awful, and actually give in to that and be so emotional over what i initiated and completed in failure.

Or, accept the wrongs openly, confess sorry to those that were unhappy, but at the end of the day still believe in what has been accomplished, be encouraged by the many firsts, and the realisation of many plans that months ago people thought impossible :)

I think i prefer the later.

To the all Mighty God, thanks for everything,
specially stopping the rain last minute

SBS Prom Night- Garden Of Eden

From the sketching of rough ideas, to the brainstorming of the program flow into late nights with Andrew months before anyone has thought of, to the collecting of inspirations across the internet and shopping complexes ( yea shopping malls are such an inspiration :P)...

Being able to see the progress of a spontaneous casual topic during dinner turning into a sold out event of more than a thousand, i would say its truly a blessing. The whole giant realization of the event would not be as it is now without the extra stubbornness and overtime hard work, but i or we shall claim no credit of this because i know behind me, it is exactly God that is bringing things into past. Its really hard to explain now but yea, i'm waiting to testify right after the night itself :)

The Garden of Eden, i am uncertain of how Christians out there may see it, but i see it as the starting of a revival! The Garden of Eden is where man was created by God in His own image and compassion, it was where man dwell in abundant life of true joy and satisfaction, it was where everything was just so pleasant and there was no need of worries an anxiety, it was where everything begun.

Thank you Lord for revealing ideas and concepts to me, blessing me with a committee with a purpose, and thank you for your guidance through out the journey, it is only for a fool to think that all this could be possible by our mere efforts. I pray for wisdom and understanding, and thank you for the grace that is forever sufficient!

I pray for your hand to be upon everyone that is working on this event, may they be blessed with health and strength, reveal yourself to them in their times of hardship, and let them see how mighty the God who created the original Garden of Eden is! X)

Garden of Eden, 29th Nov, let it be the starting of a whole new chapter, of more miracles and wonders, of more testimonies and blessings, let it be, the starting of a revival in TAR!

in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

A Prayer

*typed a whole page of emo writings, of all the downs that i've been encountering. And the emotionless yet charcoal colored face that i unconsciously wear.

But when i think about it, whining doesn't make any difference nor aid to the situation. Holding on to problems means keeping them tight. Thanks devil , for making me realise that i'm in no way in charge of how my life should and can be. And thanks for showing me all your stupid tactics in putting me down.

"I surrender all to You". Sometimes we struggle so hard to comprehend on which doctrine to believe in as if its a choice. But when you truly feel the love of the true God, no arguments are needed.

Thank you Lord for being there always, in times of low and high, in times where i might took your presence for granted. I can't imagine what crazy stuff i'll be doing if it wasn't for You. Your love surpasses all things, and i hope everyone can understand that. No love on earth can be even up to compare with your Agape love.

Thank you Father for Your love. Amen
