Be in control

It's the starting of holidays and I'm sort of off the schedule of non-stop happenings. Back in Kuching and cut school away which actually gives you a time frame to work on, there's practically 24 hours for 10 days without specific plans of where to go at what time to meet who.

So, as naturally as it can be, I'll indulge myself in sleeping, movie watching and online surfing. Despite plans of reading the 4 gospels and Acts, it just gets procrastinated and playing Facebook Sims Social which is actually kinda stupid but it just got caught up itself.

pretty awesome house ae? :p

"Tink Tink, who who requested something", "who who wants to be your neighbor", "who who who requested to be your good friend!"

Photobucket
Now everyone's playing "god"

Before i go to bed each night, no matter whether its 11pm or 3am, i would take out half an hour or so to be with God and cast my full attention to Him and Him alone. It's pretty awesome because He actually is there and just giving you all His attention too!

Funny thing is as I pray and soak in His presence, the things that has been occupying my mind most of the day would be interrupting and just wuzzz-ing around my mind. The sims, the background music of the game, their language that goes "fusekGandi", the American movies and ideologies. To reflect back its actually pretty scary how things i've open to could grab such a piece of mind.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

Proverbs 4:23

In order to not be a fool or make one out of myself (again) I resort from today, that i shall be careful to what I'm open to, and spending most of my attention and time on. If I'm spending most of my attention on Sims (just so happen it is these few days) MORE than I pay attention to God (through the whole day), then something's wrong! Same applies to my worries and concerns, if they overshadow my focus and sight of God and His Mighty Awesome-ness, then I'm actually worshiping these things. Applies to you?

My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight.

Proverbs 5:1

It's just awesome and scary at the same time that God is really with you all the time. ( I think you didn't get that). God! This invisible all powerful and yet personal God, is with you, every second of your life! Well you can take it from the good or bad point of view. As of thinking He's such a stalker, I really hit myself over the times where I think he's not there, and the times where I'm not paying attention to Him. Today, just of any other holidays, I was browsing into some random movies on PPS and saw "How High", some movie about a guy who uses his dead best friend's ashes to plant marijuana and when he smoke on it the best friend came back as a ghost to help him, which was really funny. But I gotta stop half way to get my brother from the airport. Right after i left the computer, a voice came in the volume of stern-Ness and reminder that I should really be looking after what I'm watching. I knew it wasn't my thought because clearly I was so indulge in that comedy, which i now find it really stupid of me to watch that.

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

Powerful!

Finally, brothers (and sisters), whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Too Powerful!

May whoever you are that read this, be it a believer of Jesus or not (yet), do be in control of your mind and thoughts, cause they are so powerful that every great invention came from that part of us. Be in Control my friends! :)

Just for laughs, enjoy the photo below.

The Cat City

It sounded pretty far-fetched a year ago that a few of them bought tickets spontaneously and said they were flying to Kuching next year. A year past and there you have the 4 of them plus me 5, took 3 separate planes on the same day from KL to Kuching. The airport person must have thought there's something fishy with my house BMW, which yes its a Wira, and its Buatan Malaysia :)

Travelling with these 4 human beings wouldn't be something everyone would like, specially when all 4 of them look like winners of some model search.

Presenting,

one bad-boy hunk he is;

and last but not least,

who is as sweet as Taylor Swift!

No joke ae? :p

And to make things worse,

Photobucket

they are couples!

which leave me, the local boy and driver all alone =.=

Nah, just kidding. I don't look that bad myself :p Although it was a little awkward at first, things got real fun through out the seven days of their stay. I think we practically visited almost everywhere in Kuching, besides the natural caves and some awesome gardens, we covered all the way from the mountains to the city then to the beach. We even bought some drinks and went to the city bridge to drink, where Chris saw fireflies for his first time. Who says Kuching's boring :D

Photobucket

Besides food, the security, snakes and some huge houses around, the guys were actually very excited about the roads in Kuching. They find the roads so smooth, that you can play water slides when it rains.

Photobucket

This place really ain't that bad huh?

Photobucket

As hard as i tried, i really hope they had a great time. It was my first ever visit with friends 'from the other side' and it was my first time driving that much in a stretch in my entire life. I bet they enjoyed my driving skills as much :D

Photobucket

Thanks to them, i re-visited places I haven't been in years. Looking back at the same sceneries, food and places from a tourist's point of view and pressing the camera shuttle on just about everything, I realized that...

familiar things can be just as fascinating and exciting :)

Cheers Kuching!

Happy Chinese New Year :)

Merry Birthdays

Birthdays are always special.
To celebrate your birthday on a complete different month as it should is even more unique. To top that of, celebrating birthdays with 18 individuals born in different months of the year would simply be, extraordinary! :)

Coming from a city where there is a trend of leaving home when you are between the age of 18-25, it is hardly possible to be able to see my mates whenever i come back to town. Thanks to the person that created Chinese New Year unsure-ly how many trillion years ago, friends fly back all around the globe back home for the occasion and we get to have an old school reunion along with a warmy joined birthday celebration :)

Chinese New Year

It ain't about spring cleaning ,
It ain't about red color ,
It ain't about the food that makes your tummy wider.

It ain't about tradition,
It ain't about culture,
It ain't about tigers that suddenly became popular.

It ain't about ang pows,
It ain't about visitation,
It ain't about the wishes that everybody mention.

It ain't about tangerines,
It ain't about bak gua,
It ain't about the text messages that you didn't reply, "la"!
(sorry if i did not reply you XD)

Of course,
It ain't about valentines,
It ain't about dates,
It ain't about making sure your partner's not late.

Its Chinese New Year everybody, to me,
the true joy of prosperity and culture and food comes when your enjoying this festive season with your family :)

Be happy everybody, and have a Happy Chinese New Year! Roar!

Home

"Hey where you, you want lunch?"
"Yea sure."
"ok"

The phone call ended abruptly after a three sentence conversation. This scenario somehow became a daily routine of my stays in Kuching over semester breaks. Short, yes it is, but dad never fails to call back and check whether the big kid at home needs food or not. He'll be coming home from his farms and the call indicates that he's having lunch i suppose. Before i notice it, i'll hear the familiar roar of the old rusty Land Cruiser with its jingles of loose metal from afar and slowly making its park outside the house.

Food container in a plastic bag, in it hides yet another unknown meal of his choice. He'll pass it to me without a word and i'll take it over and head to the kitchen with continuance of his silence. Either it means, there's no need of language to mutual understanding or he's just taking it as a responsibility of care and love. But as for me i really do appreciate it. Although sometimes the menu stays the same for a stretch of a week, but why complain when your daddy buys you food, and you can just eat without thinking of how much the meal cost and how much you owe the buyer :)

Life back home does not need any other adjective besides "great". How great it is to be digging all sorts of food that my hands can reach without having the guilt of finishing other people's food which i usually practice in college. Or flipping the fridge every few minutes as if the contains may multiply according to the times the door opens.

Schedule-less may have been driving me crazy for i'm not use of not having my hours crammed with ridiculous amount of meet-ups and work and play but hey, its Kuching. Its meant to be like that, like how the road traffic here symbolizes how we live our Kuching life, slow and steady.

From the waking up of my biological clock, to the realization that TV actually exists and subsequently indulging in weird Taiwanese shows, how contently meaningless a day may start :) Or be waken by dad at 6 to follow him on his work at the farm, but having plentiful of coffee breaks way before we even reached the farm itself. (Yea people call it orchard but i like the word farm more)

Opening a coffee house or a cafe has always been a dream, since primary school days. I remember writing an essay on how my coffee house concept would be and how my day would start and end as a cafe owner.

Kuching has the best cafes or coffee houses which are usually renovated from old shop lots like the comic above. The longitudinal shape of the cafes may limit the creativity of its interior but they never fail to captivate me with their distinct decor and concepts along with their fancy drinks besides latte and mochas of the sort.

Feels real to be home, living life as it is and sipping coffee 3 times a day. Or having no worries over paying for food or transportation, even having a fixed line phone is something to be happy for. Somehow i've been receiving wrong calls from aunties who gets so shy when they've realize they dialed the wrong number, cute :) And the familiar ringing tone of a house phone just makes you feel home, doesn't it? :)

Kuching the cat city, may be boring at times where you just can't think of anywhere to go. There's less than a handful of fast food chain and cinemas or shopping complexes to hang out in. But don't ask whether Kuching's better than KL, cause home's always the best place to be :)

and there's plenty of coffee houses you see :)

Kuching

The evening scenery, of Kuching
which i found through google.

Am currently in the City of Cats and will be staying till the 12th of May. Not having much plans yet beside going around searching for nostalgic food, karaoke, drive as much as possible and going to random beaches and hills with dad. Just read through a tourist's blog post over his visit to Kuching and i realize, there's actually a lot to do around here, there's national parks everywhere!

I found out that, coming to Kuching as a tourist gives a whole new perception towards this familiar city of mine. Starting from reaching the airport, grabbing the lowest taxi rate, living in the hotels that are located along the river as above, and getting to the beaches or national parks by van or speed boats and stuff. Besides, walking along the riverbank/waterfront (which Kuching residents has taken for granted) and watching the fountain show (which i took for granted) and stuff like that is actually quite exotic.Gosh i envy you guys who do not have houses around here. HAHA!

Cuti-cuti Malaysia, forget about Redang and Perhentian, forget bout Penang and Langkawi, Kuching is the newest place to be, so do come visit!

as a tourist haaaa XD

Do You Drive?

Since i am physically separated from home most of the time, i don't get to drive a lot. So on the rare occasions of homecoming, that's the only time that i get to drive. Or in a better sense, try.to.drive.

Frankly i don't consider myself a great driver. Though driving skills tend to be directly link with words like, "macho" or "man". (i got my license in a hurry, 2 lessons and then the test!) See the chain? hunks-cars-driving skills-babes, its all connected. That's why its double the percentage of date success in college if u have a car :p And that' why i'm single i suppose!

The thing bout driving to me is, its ironic! When i drive someone, and if the driving worries them, obviously i'm losing credibility. But if it does not bother them at all, yea it means they trust you, or it may also mean you're driving's taken for granted. The speed you keep, the momentum you maintained, the smoothness of switching gears, the timing of the brakes when you're ceasing the car.

Well of course that was just a minor little thing that caught me. Overall, driving's real fun. Though i hear a lot of people complaining bout how boring and monotonous it gets after years of driving, i still think its enjoyable. Its like maths, when you're trying to figure how thinks work, its frustrating. But once you get the hang of it, its fun! XD

But the thing that 'confuse' me is, i see plenty of girls friends that've gotten through law test, on-the-road driving with mr.extra brake, passing through the final driving test (or not), and finally, obtained their P license *teng teng! But after all that, they're not gonna drive at all. Not to the fact that there's no car or of oil price, but just because, they are afraid to. (Don't get me wrong, i truly respect girls that drives manual, gosh feel like saluting you guys!)

Well, nothing's wrong with that. Its just like, signing a facebook account and never add people. Or, getting an Australian PR and settling down in Africa. haha.

Come on guys, driving ain't that bad. Once you get the hang of it, you'll see yourself swearing fluently to cars around you while smsing on the phone, checking your fresh pimple in the back mirror, changing radio channels and driving, all at the same time :D

Yep, my driving skills just went from infant level, to Paris Hilton's level :)

saw this outside a gift shop at wangsa maju, nice! XD

Not Taking Things for Granted

As it is, i'm in Kuching for a month now away from school for holidays. Well holidays might be relaxing (at first), but since its 5 weeks long, it tends to convince you that holidays can be quite boring.

Well if someone actually let me, i would really stay home everyday and "shake leg" or just rot. Thankfully, there are friends that are so enthusiastic bout going out that i won't have the chance of even letting the rotting process begin.

Thanks to the enthusiasm, i caught on it too! So, we decided to go on out to find
fun in the city that we are so familiar with, that too often we take things for granted. I always thought,

"What if someday there are a bunch of foreign friends that came visiting, and i were to show them around and stuff, would i know where to?"

Good. So here we are, re-appreciating Kuching, the place i thought was incomparably boring. (alamak reappreciating lagik) What!! we shouldn't take things for granted what!

First of, we went to Civic Centre

picture not taken by me

Civic center is build for, i don't know what reason. But it is one of the points in Kuching where you can have a full view of Kuching. From the outskirts to the city and back to the mountains.

It has a restaurant and pub up there, which was recommended by Kennysia. Though its no match for the revolving restaurant on KL tower, its still humbly comfortable both in sight-viewing and price.

It might not be such a great idea to get your first impression of Kuching from up here. Because it gives an impression of tininess to Kuching. Well Kuching maybe small but the view on top unnecessarily emphasize it.

Located just opposite Civic Center is Sarawak Club. A club house where they served the best butter prawns. It was started by the British and i believe its history date back to a hundred years old.

There is where i was introduce to fish & chip, freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly

You can really see the whole Kuching from up here. I suggest people with bad direction pay a visit up there. Its like a living map.

one side of Kuching. Do not underestimate those houses, there's where huge mansions stood.

There's this place which we use to have choir performance and orchestra music. Don't really understand why the wide space for performance but it does look grant, like some greek ritual.

After sight-seeing a hundred feet above the ground, we went to a park 4minutes drive away.

They called it "Taman Budaya" which means, cultural park. But i really don't understand why :P
I think we have a handful of parks that are named similar. hehe.

I'm fascinated by street lamps, and i don't know why :O

Mum and dad use to bring us here we loafs of bread, to feed the fishes! =D
And i remembered the taekwando stamina training i use to have here =/

People normally have their morning walks or jogs round here. Athletes who are under serious training runs here as well. So by evening, it would not be too exaggerating to called the place pack.

The scenery might not be the main attraction for the joggers, but the peace and quietness certainly is a major factor.
You can literally here the dipples carressing the still water

Lamps, don't you find them wonderful? :D

still, ancient, dimmy..nah, i really don't know how to descibe

*hearing the wind brushing across the leaflets

Old trees, green grass, birds chirping, nothing much but a normal combination of nature, yet they never fail to refresh the minds of passer-bys.

haha, i know this picture seem overated, but who cares! haha

That's all for this post (was thinking of the word "episode" but it might sound too cocky). I've still got plenty of photos from a bunch of trips around hometown to share.

Hopefully, these might ignite nolstagia to fellow Kuching-ians, or convince those that are half-hearted bout visiting Kuching, and those that have already plan to come! XD
